The Tournament

Thrilling ice hockey since 1923

The first Spengler Cup match ever was Oxford University against Berliner SC. The tournament started with four participants; in addition to Oxford and Berlin with the Vienna EV and the HC Davos. Cambridge University joins on January 2 and then plays against the rest of the teams. In 1924, 15 teams competed for victory. With this tournament, which is strong in terms of both numbers and quality, Davos will become the ice hockey centre of Europe.

Team Canada

The last tile for the “perennial favourite” dates back to 2019. As is well known, the tournaments in 2020 and 2021 fell victim to the covid epidemic. But even in 2022 and 2023 Team Canada’s name is absent from the final matchups. For the North Americans, accustomed to success, this represents an usually long dry spell.
