history of the Spengler Cup

The Davos physician Dr. Carl Spengler – son of Dr. Alexander Spengler, who laid the foundation for the health resort of Davos – was an enthusiastic supporter of the HC Davos, founded in 1921. In his effort to support his club and, at the same time, to reunite nations divided by the First World War through sporting encounters, he donated a challenge trophy at Christmas 1923.

Carl Spengler's intention – as stated in the original charter – was to give the once-hostile nations an opportunity to rediscover mutual understanding and trust through fair and friendly competition, and to extend a hand of camaraderie.

Immerse yourself in the history of the world’s oldest club tournament.
