The Spengler Cup is played according to the current rules of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The winning team after regulation time (60 minutes) receives three (3) points. If a game is decided in overtime, the winning team receives two (2) points, while the losing team earns one (1) point.

All decisions are based on the official Spengler Cup Tournament Regulations (English version).

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Since 2010, the Spengler Cup has featured six teams, bringing with it an exciting and dynamic tournament format. While the game dates are fixed, only the matchups for the opening day of the six-day event are announced in advance.

The group stage begins on December 26, with games scheduled daily at 3:10 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. local time. Starting on the fourth day of the tournament (December 29), teams compete for semifinal qualification. The two group winners advance directly to the semifinals, while the remaining teams battle in pre-semifinals (2nd Torriani vs. 3rd Cattini & 2nd Cattini vs. 3rd Torriani) for the two remaining spots. The winners of these matchups move on to face the group leaders in the semifinals. The final for the coveted Spengler Cup title takes place on December 31 at 12:10 p.m local time.
