HC SPARTA PRAHA

HC Sparta Praha is coming back to Davos. The Czech top team brings not only history and quality, but also strong ambitions – and will compete for the 11th time at the world’s oldest club tournament.
Sparta Prague is one of the best-known and most successful hockey clubs in the Czech Republic. The team has already won the Spengler Cup twice (1962, 1963) and most recently reached the final in 2022, where they narrowly lost to Ambrì-Piotta in a shootout. This will mark Sparta’s eleventh appearance in Davos.
Founded 1903, Sparta is one of Europe’s oldest hockey clubs. With eight national titles, the team has long been a fixture among the league’s top contenders. In the 2024/25 season, Sparta – led by head coach Pavel Gross – claimed the regular season title and advanced to the playoff semifinals, where they were narrowly defeated by eventual champions Kometa Brno.
Sparta has also left its mark on the international stage, reaching the finals of major European tournaments three times – most recently in 2017 in the Champions Hockey League, where they lost in overtime to Frölunda.
Beyond sporting success, Sparta draws one of the biggest crowds in Europe: during the 2024/25 regular season, the club averaged 12,804 spectators per home game. During the playoffs, every match was sold out, with over 17,000 fans packing the arena each night.
