The countdown is on: in just 28 weeks, the historic Spengler Cup starts to his 97th tournament – and the group allocations as well as the full game schedule for the 2025 edition are now confirmed. Reigning champion Fribourg-Gottéron will face Sparta Prague and IFK Helsinki in Group Torriani. Host club HC Davos will compete in Group Cattini alongside Team Canada and tournament debutants U.S. Collegiate Selects.
The 97th Spengler Cup will open on December 26 with a thrilling match-up: Fribourg-Gottéron vs. Sparta Prague – two teams with big ambitions and passionate fan bases. The last time these two clubs met was during the European Hockey League in the 1998/99 season – now they’ll meet again at the Eisstadion Davos.
The evening game promises even more excitement: Canada vs. USA – a classic rivalry between two ice hockey powerhouses on the very first day of the tournament. While Team Canada is a long-time participant in Davos, the U.S. Collegiate Selects will be making their tournament debut. For the first time in the Spengler Cup’s 102-year history, a team of top NCAA college players will compete – a young and hungry squad that may even include Canadian players. This North American showdown on the night of December 26 is set to deliver intensity, talent, and high emotion.
On Day Two, HC Davos and IFK Helsinki will enter the fray. The Finns return to Davos for the first time since 2022, bringing a compelling mix of youth and experience to the world's oldest club tournament. The host team HCD, meanwhile, will be aiming to become the tournament’s sole record holder. With 17 titles each, HCD and Team Canada are currently tied at the top of the all-time winners list.
The full tournament schedule is now available on our website. Single-game tickets will go on sale online starting September 9, 2025. Full tournament passes can already be reserved via the form on the website.
