Swiss duel at the Spengler Cup

At the 96th Spengler Cup, Team Canada will battle the Straubing Tigers on Monday afternoon (3.10pm) for a final berth. The Swiss duel between HC Davos and Fribourg-Gotteron in the evening game (8.15pm) will determine the second finalist.
Fribourg-Gotteron has never won a title in its long club history. Fribourg is looking to change that at the current Spengler Cup. Two more victories are needed to do so. The semi-final has a special appeal. The opponent is a Swiss club in HCD and simultaneously also the Spengler Cup defending champion. The two teams have faced each other twice in the current championship. There were two road wins. HCD won 4-1 in Fribourg. Gotteron took revenge with a 3-2 win in Davos. ‘Cool, that we are now going to have a Swiss duel’, HCD forward Enzo Corvi said ecstatically about the semifinals after the win over Karpat Oulu.
Just as at last year’s tournament, there will be a Women’s League game on Spengler Cup ice. There it will be the same duel on Monday morning as in the men’s Spengler Cup evening semi-final. The HCD Ladies will face HC Fribourg-Gotteron’s women at 11am. Davos currently sits in second place behind SC Bern, Fribourg in fifth. The doors open at 10am and the entry to the game is free.
