SCL Tigers to compete in the Spengler Cup for the first time

The Organising Committee of the Spengler Cup is delighted to welcome the SCL Tigers as participants in the traditional tournament for the first time. The club from Langnau has accepted the invitation to the 98th Spengler Cup with great anticipation and will enrich the tournament in Davos with its sporting development and professional organisation.

Alongside host HC Davos, other Swiss teams have generated great excitement at the Spengler Cup in recent years. HC Ambri-Piotta (winners in 2022) captivated the audience, while more recently Fribourg-Gottéron (winners in 2024) impressed with an outstanding fan base and created a goosebump atmosphere in Davos over the past two years. Inviting a second Swiss team has proven successful in many respects – not least for the participating organisations, which are given the opportunity to present themselves on a major international stage for an entire week.

With the SCL Tigers, the Spengler Cup now welcomes an organisation that has undergone remarkable development over the past decade. Since their promotion back to the National League in 2015, the infrastructure in Langnau has been comprehensively renewed. The construction of a modern campus including an additional ice rink and an athletic training hall has created new and contemporary training facilities not only for the club, but for an entire region – benefiting far more than just ice hockey. The sustainable work in the Emmental is also reflected on the ice: last season, the Tigers qualified for the playoff quarter-finals and pushed finalists Lausanne HC to the limit. In the current campaign, Langnau are once again positioned in the middle of the National League standings, impressing with defensive consistency and offensive tenacity.

Head coach Thierry Paterlini has led the team since 2022 with modern and meticulous coaching. The former player himself took part in the Spengler Cup five times and won the tournament twice with HC Davos (2001 and 2002).

OC President Marc Gianola is pleased about the participation of the SCL Tigers: «Like Fribourg and Ambri, Langnau will be a great addition to our traditional tournament. Both the organisation and the team fit the Spengler Cup perfectly with their down-to-earth character combined with a modern philosophy.»

For the SCL Tigers, participation in 2026 fulfils a long-cherished wish. Dieter Aeschimann, CEO of the SCL Tigers, comments: «The invitation to this traditional tournament fills us with great pride and is a wonderful recognition of the work of the entire organisation and the passion of our fans. We are particularly pleased to represent the Emmental and Entlebuch regions in Davos.»

With the SCL Tigers as well as host and defending champion HC Davos, two participants for the 98th Spengler Cup have now been confirmed. Further teams will be announced as soon as the relevant contracts have been finalised.

Advance sales for single-game tickets will start on 8 September 2026 at 10:00 am. Season tickets for all eleven games can be ordered from mid-July. VIP hospitality packages are already available for booking via the official Spengler Cup website.
