The confetti of the last tournament’s award ceremony have barely been cleared, and the planning of the next Spengler Cup is already in high gear. The organizing committee has succeeded in committing the Swedish elite team Frolunda HC for the 95th Spengler Cup.

The Spengler Cup OC has the great pleasure to announce the commitment of the SHL team Frolunda Hockey Club for the upcoming tournament in Davos. The team from Gothenburg was already scheduled to participate in 2021. But the Swedes were denied their first participation at the traditional tournament after the last-minute cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, after Orebro HK this year, we look forward to having the next Swedish top team in Davos.
Frolunda HC has won their national championship five times (1965, 2003, 2016, 2019). Their success in the Champions Hockey League, where the team from Gothenburg has won four of the last five competitions, is even more impressive. Frolunda is currently in the semifinals and is eying its fifth European title.
Even with all its youth development, Frolunda’s team does not lack proven players, led by their 35-year-old top scorer Ryan Lasch. The American forward has been among the best offensive players in Europe. With 22 points in 9 games, Lasch is the most efficient scorer on European ice in the current CHL season as well. In addition, Frolunda just announced the signing of Henrik Tommernes, currently playing for Servette, for the upcoming season. So, the exceptional Swedish defenseman will suit up at the Spengler Cup for the first time in his career.

In 1994 Farjestad was the last Swedish team to win the traditional tournament in Davos. In Frolunda a European champion is now coming to the Spengler Cup and their ambitions should be obvious.

Further confirmed teams
In host HC Davos, Team Canada, and Frolunda HC three participants at this year’s edition are already known at this point.
