KooKoo from Kouvola in southern Finland will travel to Davos for the 94th Spengler Cup this Boxing Week. The Spengler Cup Organizing Committee is pleased to yet again welcome a Finnish elite team.

The team, founded in 1965, has been back in the highest Finnish league since the 2015/2016 season. Before then, they were playing in the “Mestis”, the second-highest Finnish league, winning the championship in 2014.

Prominent role models
After their promotion, KooKoo wasted little time to establish itself in the highest Finnish league, the Liiga. In the past championship the team played a very respectable regular season, finishing fifth and reaching the playoffs without problems – only nine points separated them from second place. The coronavirus then prevented KooKoo from highlighting their good season in the playoffs.
The Finns of KooKoo will have big shoes to fill at the Spengler Cup Davos. In 2018, KalPa Kuopio upset record title holder Team Canada to win the traditional tournament. The Spengler Cup had its first Finnish champion ever in its 92nd edition. And in this season KooKoo won two of the three head-to-head matchups, KalPa only took one win. The fourth meeting could not be played anymore.

In KooKoo an interesting, young team with a modern style of play is added to the tournament’s competitors. The Spengler Cup Organizing Committee is pleased to maintain the exceptional partnership with the Finnish representatives.
