Andres Ambühl: Tournament-Topscorer

By the end of the game, even the HC Davos youngsters Dino and Marc Wieser whirled freely around the ice. Thanks to the 4:1 victory against Karlovy Vary, the chance to play for the overall tournament title is significantly improved. A smaller but more agile player can be allowed to feel like the match winner today...

Ambühl leading Spengler Cup's Top Scorer

The HCD may again seriously expect to participate in their 11th tournament Finals since 1986. Andres Ambühl again made an enormous contribution, in this game, their second consecutive victory at the 2008 tournament. Though only standing 1.76 meters (5'8") tall, Ambühl nevertheless towered above all other players on the ice. Having scored his 3rd goal of the tournament, the almost unstoppable "chief play maker" topped off the game with a 4th goal increasing his personal lead in the Top Scorer category (4 goals), and putting the game well out of reach for the Czechs.

In the 10th minute of the game, Ambühl flicked the puck at exactly the right moment over the gloved hand of the Czech goal keeper, Mensator. The lucky equalizer of the guests - goalie Reto Berra who had been fielded for the first time, missed what appeared to be a harmlessly skipping puck - was answered by Ambühl who made the score 2:1 (22). Fifty-four seconds later, Reto von Arx with the puck out-skated all adversaries.

Karlovy Vary already eliminated?

There was nothing Karlovy Vary could do to oppose their 3:1 deficit. The last highlight of the night came thanks to the work of Davos' Family Wieser: Marc set up the shot, Dino finished it off perfectly.

Karlovy Vary's second defeat almost guarantees elimination from the tournament. It was not that the Spengler Cup novice delivered a disappointing performance, however their contribution to the overall entertainment value inside the sold-out arena was somewhat limited. Karlovy proved to be a leader only in the penalty stats.
