Canada wins against Pardubice

McTavish shot the first penalty for his team.
In the second match of the opening-day of this year's Spengler Cup Team Canada was playing versus the Czech team HC Möller Pardubice. The Canadians were clear favourite in this match but the starting minutes of this encounter didn't prove this.
Team Canada played a very weak first Third and Pardubice took the lead in the 16th minute. The disappointment was even bigger when the Czechs scored their second goal in a 3 vs. 5-situation against them.
But the immediate reply of Team Canada followed within the next seconds and this gave the team of coach Simpson the confidence back. After this goal they started to perform better. They put keeper Lasak under immense pressure and could score twice in this Third. The second Third started with a 1:0 lead for Pardubice and ended in a 3:1
lead of Team Canada.
In the last 20 minutes no one thought that Team Canada will have such problems with Pardubice, especially not after the second Third. But things changed quite quickly and the Czech could level the result. Until the end of the match nothing happened anymore and this can also be said for the over-time. At the end the penalties had to decide this match. But this was a clear affair for Team Canada and keeper Jospeh; the Czechs failed three times and the Canadians scored twice.
