In quite an unusual mix of sporting disciplines Dynamo Moscow was both skating as well as boxing their way to victory. Thanks to winning 7:4 against Ingolstadt, the Continental Hockey League team which has yet to relinquish a single game is heading straight for the tournament's finale...

Clearing the benches caused by unfair check

The Russians decided the game in their favour during an exciting third period which saw them increase their lead from 2:2 to 5:2 in 103 seconds. Noteworthy goals were compliments of Eric Landry (23) and Dimitri Afanasenkow (24) which were scored while the Russian team was reduced in numbers.

Shortly before the middle point of the game and after nine goals, the general frustration over the 6:3 score in favour of Moscow, found an outlet in a mass brawl. At the root of this conflict had been an aggressive check to the head of Dynamo player Jakow Rylow by Ingolstadt's defender Stephan Daschner. As a worthy successor to Ivan Nepriajew, Nikolai Walujew showed himself to be equally combative, literally giving his hopelessly overwhelmed opponent a good beating.

Swiss players also chipping in

The Swiss players proved to be among the few rays of light for the team from Ingolstadt which had come to the Spengler Cup with a motto of "avoiding embarrassment at all cost". Oliver Setzinger (SCL Tigers) and his center-forward partner Romano Lemm (Lugano) both joined the ranks of goal scorers for the tournament.

Reto Kobach lived through a rather more unhappy evening: an unfortunate movement of his skates opened the door for Moscow to move into the lead 0:1
