HC Davos wins the Spengler Cup quarter-finals against Hämeenlinna 4:2

The Saturday evening match-up between the Swiss National Team and HC Davos will definitely be a highlight of this year’s Spengler Cup. The home team fought their way back after falling behind 0:2 in Friday evening’s quarter-final game against Hämeenlinna to win 4:2.

It was a lot of hard work for Davos to qualify for the semi-finals where they will face Team Suisse. The local boys fell behind Hämeenlinna 0:2 after only 6 minutes of play. Both goals were scored by 25 year-old Oula Palve. HCD had great difficulty defending against the energetic attacks by the Finns in the opening phase. The guests even had the opportunity to increase their lead with several good scoring chances. Which made Enzo Corvi’s catch-up goal after 12 minutes extremely important.

The score was overturned in the second period within 169 seconds. First Robert Kousal surprised the Finnish goalie Emil Larmi with an acute angle shot. Shortly thereafter, Marc Wieser successfully completed a solo run after receiving an ideal steep pass from Brandon Buck. Of all the players, it was Jeremy Morin who secured the win for the home team in the third period. The American played for Hämeenlinna in 7 league games this season before he was transferred to SC Bern in early December.
