The line-up of participating teams of the 90th Spengler Cup 2016 is known. Reflecting familiar faces as well as a premiere.

The participating teams are made up as follows: Team Canada, Mountfield HK (Czech Republic, Extra-League), HK Dinamo Minsk (Belarus, KHL), Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (Russia, KHL) as well as HC Lugano and HC Davos (Swiss, NLA).

Two KHL-Teams

OC President, Marc Gianola, is extremely happy about this strong line-up: “We will experience good technical and spectacular ice-hockey at this year’s 90th Spengler Cup.” With Dinamo Minsk we see the return of the winner of the 2009 Spengler Cup. The Belarusians have played in the Kontinental Hockey League KHL since 2008. Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg also plays in the KHL. The ambitious team that made its debut at the Spengler Cup last year and showed fantastic hockey, will once again be returning to Davos. The reoccurring participation of two KHL teams promises top-class hockey. Last year’s performance by HC Lugano was inspirational. The team from Tessin placed second not only at last year’s Spengler Cup but also in the Swiss Championship.

The Premiere

The Spengler Cup premiere goes to Mountfield HK – a top team of the Czech Republic from the University city of Hradec Kralové located in the northeast region of Bohemia. Since its licensing in July of 2013, the team has participated in the highest Czech league – the Extra-League. Spengler Cup fans can also look forward to the return of the title-holder Team Canada and host team, Hockey Club Davos.

The strength of the line-up can be similarly compared to last year’s participating teams. “I am extremely happy, that we can welcome two well-known teams with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (Russia) and Dynamo Minsk (Belarus) as our guests in Davos. Like this, the KHL as one of the top ice hockey leagues is represented duly”, states Marc Gianola.
