Fredi Pargätzi, Spengler Cup OC-President for the past 26 years, is retiring at the end of the year. His successor is 42-year old Marc Gianola.

“It is a great honor for me to take over as the Organizational Committee (OC) President of the Spengler Cup in Davos”, says Marc Gianola. This native of the Engadin came to Davos as a 19-year old hockey player in 1993. He was a big influence in the club over 17 years - celebrating 4 Swiss Championship titles as a leading figure as well as 4 Spengler Cup wins. His highest sport achievement for himself and for the entire team was the Spengler Cup title in 2000. This was the first tournament win for the HCD in 42 years and the basis for following successes.

Lifeblood and Awe-inspiring
Since his retirement from professional hockey in 2009, Marc Gianola has been active in the Hockey Club Davos organization as Head of Marketing and Sponsoring. This father of four has continually shown his full commitment and passion for HC Davos. He is also a bit awestuck regarding his new job: “These are very big shoes for me to fill”.

Pargätzi continues his support in regards to sports matters
Fredi Pargätzi has been with the Spengler Cup since 1990 (only missing 2001 and 2002 during a timeout). The decision to step down as OC-President was not taken lightly. The decision had nothing to do with a lack of passion or gratification, but more to do with age. “Of course, it does pain me to let go of the Spengler Cup. But I would rather retire during a time when everything is up and running successfully”, says Fredi Pargätzi. This point in time is equally good for HCD and himself. Pargätzi was a leading influence in the decision for HCD to take over the responsibilities for marketing the Spengler Cup. This is why he wished to remain as OC-President until this decision was put in practice and running well. “This is now the case”, Pargätzi is confident.

The retiring OC-President will remain with the Spengler Cup on a strategic level. He will furthermore support the new OC-President Marc Gianola in all sports matters.

As of 1.1.2016 - the Spengler Cup Organizational Committee will be as follows:
Marc Gianola (President), Bill B. Mistura (Vice-President), Fredi Pargätzi (Sport), Jasmin Gnädinger (Marketing)
