In the second pre-semifinal game between the Russian squad Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg and the German champion Adler Mannheim, there was a battle for every inch of ice. Both teams played the first 20 minutes, but only one scored.

Tommi Kivisto (8.) put the Russians ahead with a screened shot and Alexander Torchenyuk (11.) extended the lead just a little later with a nice move. On the power-play Yekaterinburg was ice cold - striking again. Sergey Yemelin (17./pp) was at the right place and netted one to make it 3-0.

Contrary to the score, Adler Mannheim was active in the game and created several opportunities on spectacular plays. After the first intermission, the Russians appeared more dominant and confined the Germans to their own defensive zone, especially during two power-play opportunities.

Although Brent Raedeke (51.) scored off a rebound on a shot by Carle in the final phase of the game, they were unable to put the Russian victory and subsequent semifinal ticket in danger.
