This year’s Spengler Cup schedule has been announced

This year’s Spengler Cup schedule (December 26 to 31) has been announced. With two groups, it is basically set up along the lines of last year’s competition. The two Swiss teams (the Kloten Flyers and hosts HC Davos) have each been allocated to one of these groups.

The Kloten Flyers are part of the first group called Torriani together with Dinamo Riga and German participant EHC Wolfsburg. The second group, named the Cattini group, is formed by Team Canada, HC Vitkovice Steel from the Czech Republic and HC Davos.

HC Davos’s First Game on December 27

Hosts HC Davos will only enter the action on 27 December, the second day of the tournament, and will be playing both of their two group games in the evening. “With this schedule, the organizer has considered a wish that has been expressed by many fans, namely to announce the time and date of Davos’s two group matches before the start of the tournament”, explains Fredi Pargätzi, President of the Organizing Committee.

The semi-final fixtures of Friday, December 30, have been switched this year so that the first- and second-ranked teams of each group won’t meet in the semi-final; this would only be possible in the final. The 2011 Spengler Cup winner will be determined on December 31 (the final starts at 12pm Swiss time).
