A Swedish Goalgetter for St Petersburg

Legende: Mattias Weinhandl wants to celebrate his third Spengler Cup win.
Mattias Weinhandl wants to get right back where he was two years ago: the Spengler Cup podium. With Dynamo Moscow, the Swedish right winger won the world's best known club tournament in 2008. Now he skates out onto the ice with one of this year's Spengler Cup favorites: SKA St Petersburg.
When Weinhandl was transferred from Moscow to St Petersburg last summer, he easily settled in: Along with him, St Petersburg signed four other Dynamo Moscow forwards. And he also got used to living in this new city quickly and says "I like St Petersburg. It's very similar to Stockholm because of its many canals and islands."
The Way to Success
Mattias Weinhandl was especially happy to be reunited with Toni Mårtensson, with whom he had played for the Swedish club Linköping and reached the playoff final in 2008. Together with former NHL star Afinogenov, both of them now play in the same line for SKA. "Toni and I know each other very well and complement one another brilliantly. We also play in the same line for the Swedish national team", says Weinhandl, giving one reason for their success.
The Most Successful Scorer
Mattias Weinhandl is one of Sweden's most successful forwards at the moment. In 2009 and 2010, he was on the "Tre Kronor" team that won the bronze medal at the world championships. After five seasons in the NHL, Weinhandl returned to Linköping in 2007 and was transferred to the KHL club Dynamo Moscow one year later. In Moscow, he turned into a real goalgetter and was Dynamo's most successful scorer (26 goals and 60 points in total) during the last regular season.
Aiming for a Third Win in Davos
Weinhandl won the Spengler Cup with Dynamo Moscow two years ago. This year, he's again reaching out for the coveted trophy - and given SKA's strong squad, their prospects are bright. It would be the third Spengler Cup win in a row for a KHL team.
