Davos offers the ideal, all-year round destination for active vacations in a stunning Alpine setting. Whether in summer or winter, Davos is diverse, catering for almost every type of sport. Winter is ruled by skiing, carving, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, ice skating , snowshoe trekking and winter walking. Summer is the realm of runners, hikers, mountain bikers, walkers, golfers and fans of water sports. Tennis, squash, horse riding, paragliding and hang-gliding are all-year-round attractions. As well as the prestigious Spengler Cup, Davos – Europe’s largest winter sports resort with 13,000 inhabitants and 24,000 guest beds – also hosts major events such as the Swiss Alpine Marathon, Davos Sounds Good, the Davos Nordic international cross-country days and various snowboard happenings.
Davos is also culture country. The acclaimed Kirchner Museum, opened in 1992, today exhibits a comprehensive cross-section of masterpieces by German expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Also well worth mentioning are the Folklore Museum, Winter Sport Museum, Toy Museum and the Graubunden Mining Museum. Regular concert and theatre performances enhance the summer and winter programme. The Davos «Young Artists in Concert» Festival begun in 1986, greatly adds to the summer cultural attractions. For two weeks, talented young musicians delight audiences with their superb skills in the Congress Centre and Davos hotels and in Landschaft Davos churches.
During the last 25 years, Davos has firmly established itself as a successful and competitive international congress venue, despite its slightly peripheral location. One fact is confirmed over and over again – and not just by the top politicians and global economic leaders taking part in January’s World Economic Forum (WEF): Davos enjoys a simply special “congress climate”. The town’s strong points lie in its contrast to the conventional congress resort and the unique symbiosis between education and relaxation far from the hustle and bustle of city life. Davos is the perfect place to meet people, exchange knowledge, practise sport, relax and unwind.
